Story
The hem of her frock was wet and prickly. Amu squatted by the dirt road to pick bur off her cotton dress. Once done, she looked up and smiled at her baby sister; they held hands on their way back home. Young days of autumn! Marked with simple rituals, it hardly ever cleared the way for cold winter months. Picking flowers (read: shiuli) was one such morning ritual.
Dewy shiuli. The night guard that awaits dawn. Fresh as summer’s grass and familiar as a cradle-song.
As she stood outside the airport for Amu, she thought of their childhood. Does Amu look back on things? On the flower girls and the smell of October?
She hoped for them to return home holding hands.
Hold on to hope in Suta’s Shiuli Sokal saree. The light-as-air red mul-mul saree is redolent of everything pujo.
Description
Suta’s ‘made in heaven’ mul cotton, is also known as mul mul in West Bengal. The fabric is buttery soft and has a delicate beauty. Its weave is very fine and this lends a very fluid texture to the fabric, which makes draping it a breeze. It truly is like a hug that wraps you in its love.
