Her favourite Bangla phrase is “Maa ashchhe.” A phrase that every Bengali pins their hopes on. It embodies the only kind of sweet waiting, and a hint of longing too. For, once Maa leaves, the wait takes time to turn sickly sweet. What were her earliest memories of Durga Puja? She could recollect the days leading up to pujo — bamboos started piling up around street corners, new music albums were released, new clothes were bought and love slowly infected the air. As her home underwent changes in décor, she wondered if the goddess meant more to her mother than her own children? Everybody everywhere prepared for Durga’s arrival as if she was their dearest daughter. But who was her favourite?
It is Saraswati, Maa Durga’s wise daughter. She waits to catch a glimpse of Saraswati in different pandals; they play a strange kind of hide and seek. The goddess is like a cousin with only aspirational qualities and she wants to be like her. She wishes for elegance, poise, knowledge and intellect. But for now, she just wants to seek those qualities.

Description
This saree has been handwoven by a master weaver in the Mashru tradition. The Mashru weave is said to have originated in West Asia, in the 19th Century. The fabric is woven with a silk weft and a fine cotton warp. It thus combines the ageless comfort of cotton and the timeless aesthetic of silk, elevated by the presence of gold and silver zari.
