Story
Her mother was a connoisseur of sarees. Rumour had it that she had the biggest, most stunning collection of weaves in the entire township. But no matter how simple or how elaborate the saree she wore was, one accessory remained the same. Her lal bindi. Over the years, it had come to define her mother’s aesthetic. Several decades later, when she closed her eyes, her mind floated back to that bindi, and her mother’s kohl-rimmed eyes beneath them. Her gaze wandered back to the old steel trunk that had been sent to her after her mother’s passing. It was packed to the brim with her sarees and, to her, they were the most precious legacy she would ever inherit. She ran her hands along the soft silk and cotton as a tear rolled down her cheek. And then, she found it – a packet of those lal bindis. She knew right then that no matter how far away she was, her mother was always watching over her.
