Story

Suta was, quite literally, a dream come to life. But the making of this dream was anything but simple – it was a rocky journey filled with numerous challenges and uncertainties about the way ahead. The multiple achievements, accolades and feats that Suta has accomplished over the years wouldn’t be possible without the vital support of those who unconditionally loved and believed in Su and Ta – their family. The sisters’ love for sarees was inspired by their own mother’s and grandmother’s collection of handloom sarees. One of their fondest childhood memories is the aroma of freshly-washed sarees enveloping them, like a gentle hug, when they visited their grandmother’s home for their summer holidays. Growing up in Odisha, they were surrounded by artisanal weaves, to which they were introduced at an early age. So much of what goes into Suta’s design language is distilled from these memories and experiences, whether in the form of the colour palettes, motifs or even weaves.

When they started out, their father was a strong source of support in several ways – from interacting with artisans and weavers himself to bring them on board to helping Su and Ta to navigate their entrepreneurial journey. The sisters credit this unwavering familial support to them being able to establish themselves as successful mom-preneurs and visionaries.

At Suta, we believe that people never succeed alone. They are held up by an ecosystem that champions their vision, supports their decisions and motivates them to excel. This handloom cotton saree with kantha embroidery is a tribute to these ecosystems. It celebrates all those who believe in us, stick by us and cherish us.
