It seemed astounding to her that something as simple as a banana sapling could hold as much meaning as being a goddess! She often viewed the ritual with immense scepticism, commenting aloud about its relevance in the modern world. One afternoon, she decided to help the cook with the preparations for the evening’s meal. As they spoke over the clatter of utensils, the cook mentioned to her that the banana sapling was a symbol of plenty to those who didn’t have the means to buy expensive idols but were rich in faith. The kola bou was their way of thanking the earth for her bounty. It was a reminder to them to be grateful and to cherish this goddess no matter how humble her appearance. It didn’t matter what the goddess looked like; what mattered was their faith.

Our ‘made in heaven’ mul cotton, is also known as mul mul in West Bengal. The fabric is buttery soft and has a delicate beauty.
